Les collines du Shropshire représentent un quart du comté de Shropshire et sont officiellement reconnues comme AONB (« Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty », Zone de Beauté Naturelle Exceptionnelle) par l’Union Internationale pour la Conservation de la Nature.

Le point de départ est une visite au Centre de Découverte des Collines du Shropshire (www.shropshirehillsdiscoverycentre.co.uk). Là bas, vous pouvez apprendre sur l’histoire et la beauté du paysage et goûter littéralement la vue au magnifique café sur place, rempli de délices goûtus de la région. Les randonnées pédestres et cyclistes permettent de passer une journée saine, active et agréable.

Le Shropshire possède un riche patrimoine et abrite une longue liste de monuments architecturaux qui vous permettront de passer une journée à la fois agréable et éducative tout en découvrant la vie des ancêtres de ce grand comté.

Il y a un certain nombre d’endroits qui sont des sites protégés du patrimoine anglais, y compris les manoirs médiévaux (Château de Stokesay) et les ruines historiques des châteaux et des églises datant des 12ème et 13ème siècles (Château de Clun, Château de Wenlock Priory Hopton).

Il y a beaucoup d’autres activités dans la région pour les familles, les couples et les plus grands groupes, comme la randonnée, le cyclisme, l’équitation, les sports aériens, le tir à l’arc, le canoë, le géocaching, le golf, et, pour ceux qui ont le courage de plonger dans les eaux froides, la natation sauvage, qui offre un réveil rafraîchissant – quoiqu’un peu brusque.

Vous trouverez également des attractions populaires telles que la mine de plomb de Snailbeatch, et une abondance de réserves fauniques à proximité.

Il y a des centaines de sentiers pédestres et de pistes cyclables qui vous permettent de vous détendre, dans un état de paix et de tranquillité, en respirant l’air frais de la campagne. La Vallée de Carding Mill est particulièrement appréciée des visiteurs grâce à ses imposantes collines qui surplombent un long passage sinueux qui traverse la verdure de la campagne du Shropshire.
